When the World Series was first broadcast on television in 1947, it was only televised to a few surrounding areas via coaxial inter-connected stations: New York City (WNBT); Philadelphia (WPTZ); Schenectady/Albany, New York (WRGB); Washington, D.C Managing Fecal Soiling in Children . (WNBW) and surrounding suburbs/environs. In 1948, games in Boston were only seen in the Northeast. Meanwhile, games in Cleveland were only seen in the Midwest and Pittsburgh. The games were open to all channels with a network affiliation.
Afterward, World Series games were frequently scheduled at night, when television audiences were larger. Game 6 of the 1987 World Series was the last World Series game played in the daytime, indoors at the Metrodome in Minnesota. The last World Series played outdoors during the day was the final game of the 1984 series in Detroit’s Tiger Stadium. The start time of this game (Game 5) was 4:45 PM, making it the last outdoor World Series game to be started during daylight hours, but the game concluded after sunset and the final innings were technically played at night. The last World Series game to be played outdoors entirely during daylight hours was the previous day’s game, Game 4, which started at 1:45 PM.
During the Series, writer and humorist Ring Lardner had facetiously called the event the “World’s Serious”. The Series turned out to indeed have serious consequences for the sport. After rumors circulated for nearly a year, the players were suspended in September 1920. The “Black Sox” were eventually acquitted in a criminal conspiracy trial.
Game 6 world series
Roger McDowell entered the game for the Mets in the seventh and retired pinch-hitter Tony Armas, Boggs, and Barrett in order. McNamara called upon Game 6 loser Calvin Schiraldi to pitch the home half of the inning, despite his struggles in the extended outing he had two nights earlier. The day of rest did not help, as he immediately surrendered a home run to Ray Knight (playing in what would be his final game as a Met) leading off, giving the Mets their first lead of the game. Lenny Dykstra came up as a pinch-hitter and singled, then advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Santana. After McDowell successfully moved Santana into scoring position, McNamara decided to take the ball from Schiraldi and brought in Joe Sambito. After putting Wilson on intentionally, Sambito walked Backman to load the bases and Hernandez followed with a sacrifice fly to score Santana and give the Mets a three-run advantage. Bob Stanley recorded the final out by getting Carter to ground out to Owen at shortstop.
1998: Yankees over PadresComing off 114 wins in the regular season — then an American League record — the Yankees swept San Diego thanks to Tino Martinez’s Game 1 grand slam and a strong start in Game 2 from Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez.
With the exception of one day in late April and a brief stretch in early May, the Rangers led the American League West for most of the season. They finished the season with a franchise record 96–66 (.593 winning percentage) and won their second consecutive and 5th overall division title, 10 games ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. They also set a franchise record for home attendance of 2,946,949. Texas also earned the most shutouts in the American League. All 5 members of the opening day starting rotation stayed in the rotation for the entire year. C. J. Wilson tied for the league lead in starts with 34 while Derek Holland tied for second in shutouts with 4 (tied for first in the American League), with each pitcher racking up at least 13 wins. The offense also had another good year with 3 players getting 30-plus home runs for the first time in team history, and Ian Kinsler completing his second 30–30 season.
Afterward, I remember Pujols opining that fans — not just St. Louis fans, but baseball fans around the country — would remember the game for a long time. It was the history I was hoping I might one day see, and Pujols was right. I certainly haven’t forgotten.
There have been 19 sweeps in World Series history, with the most recent coming in 2012 when the Giants took out the Tigers in four games. It remains to be seen whether the Yankees can become the first team to climb out of a 3-0 deficit in the Fall Classic, but for now, New York lives to fight another day.

Buehler, who enjoys pitching in cold weather, is 3-4 with a 3.25 ERA in 17 career postseason starts. He’s allowed just one run and five hits with 17 strikeouts over 13 innings in two previous World Series outings, in 2018 against Boston and 2020 vs. Tampa Bay — both in Game 3.
2. At 9:00 a.m. Stadium staff will start the lottery process. Each person in line (over age of 16 and with a matching photo ID to their credit/debit card) will be assigned a number, that number will also be put into a box where it will then be randomly drawn.

Guessing Caravalho would be starting tomorrow if ORU can win today….then again, we might come back with Hall vs. Florida….we would have to beat the Gators twice tomorrow to advance so opportunity is there for Joshua…..but Good Guys not gonna get that far if Cox doesn’t start hitting….Mr. 47 in a row is now 1-9 in the CWS….need a multi hit game today from the Summit League POY and some hits with RISP……hopefully ORU can get it done this afternoon….GO BLUE!!!
The Giants won Game 1 behind Mathewson, but the A’s captured Games 2 and 3 – beating Mathewson in the latter game 3-2 in 11 innings after Frank Baker tied the game at 1-1 with one out in the ninth with a blast to right field, his second homer in two games.
